celebrating 30 years

About Afrika Tikkun

Founded in the watershed year of 1994, Afrika Tikkun was born at a time of tentative hope and palpable transformation. As we commemorate 30 years of our freedom and democracy as a South African nation, at Afrika Tikkun we are equally proud to celebrate 30 years of our unwavering commitment to nurturing young lives and empowering communities. Over the past three decades, like the evolution of our fledgling democracy, the lives of young people and communities have been markedly transformed. Our mission, of investing in the potential of children and youth from underprivileged backgrounds, is synonymous with the democratic ethos of equality and Ubuntu. As we reflect on three decades of service, impact and partnerships, we are inspired to continue our work with renewed vigour and hope for the next 30 years and beyond.

Join us as Afrika Tikkun celebrates three decades of monumental impact, resonating with the pulse of our nation's progress. Together, let's amplify this enduring legacy. Stand with us: donate, partner, or sponsor, and be part of the transformative journey ahead.

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, help us raise R150 000 so no child is left behind.

Why Bambanani?

Since 2018, at least 80% of our Grade R children reached their age-appropriate developmental milestones, making them school-ready and preparing them to excel in primary school.

Afrika Tikkun’s holistic Cradle-to-Career (C2C) model ensures that children with developmental delays are identified and receive support from a team of qualified Occupational Therapists. Early identification and intervention have proven to be effective in preventing minor developmental challenges from becoming permanent.

A literacy evaluation, using the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA), showed that Grade 3 children who graduated from our Bambanani programme, in 2020, had higher listening and reading scores compared to their non-Afrika Tikkun peers.
